Centered in Christ, St. Joseph Catholic Academy builds scholars, leaders and stewards who will transform the world.

ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC ACADEMY

St. Joseph Catholic Academy (SJCA) is a private college-preparatory Catholic school educating students in preschool through grade twelve. SJCA focuses on educational rigor, global standards of excellence and Catholic values. SJCA inspires 100% of its students to pursue higher learning, primarily at 4-year colleges and universities.

COVID-19 AND THE CLASS OF 2021

With its small class sizes and available technology, SJCA was well positioned to pivot to uninterrupted virtual learning when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020. While students finished the remainder of the year virtually, SJCA maintained its high academic standards. Students were expected to attend all classes, be accountable for their work, receiving letter grades reflecting their learning. SJCA opened to in-person instruction this fall. Over 90% of the class of 2021 attend SJCA in person. The remaining 10% attend virtually. All students are required to follow SJCA attendance, grading, and behavior policies. Due to the pandemic, clubs, service, and other extracurricular activities are being moved to the spring 2021 semester.

STUDENT BODY

SJCA attracts over 800 students from SE Wisconsin and northern Illinois, with 232 students in the high school. Our students are economically and socially diverse. Almost 90% of our student body receives discounted tuition, scholarships or financial aid. Committed to educational accessibility for all, SJCA participates in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, a state voucher program for economically disadvantaged students. While SJCA is authentically Catholic, students of all backgrounds and faiths are welcomed into the SJCA community.

SERVICE

SJCA emphasizes service to others as a necessary component of personal development and global citizenship. Meaningful, independent student service is required for graduation.

CURRICULUM

Students must earn 29 credits to meet graduation requirements. SJCA offers a rigorous, collegeprep curriculum, with 13 Advanced Placement classes and many honors level course offerings. Students are challenged across all disciplines to think critically, analytically, and creatively.

SEMESTER SYSTEMS

New this year, SJCA utilizes a semester system comprised of eight 43 minute classes. In the past, the school day was comprised of seven 48-minute classes per day. The SJCA J-Term provides a supplement to traditional education through experiential learning for 10 days.

ACTIVITIES AND ATHLETICS

Students at SJCA participate in a wide array of competitive sports, clubs, and organizations. Students are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions to the fullest. All SJCA students are required to be in a club and students are encouraged to take leadership roles in these activities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, clubs are currently not offered this semester.

DISCIPLINARY REPORTING POLICY

SJCA will report major disciplinary taken against a student, notably suspensions and expulsions, to any university, college or scholarship program requesting such information.
