Mandy Weiss is the Director of Advancement and heads up all fundraising initiatives for SJCA. As a third-generation Lancer, she is committed to seeing the legacy of an SJCA education continue for generations to come. Join us as we can about how our Lancer community can help her in her mission.

Q: Hi Mandy! The Lancer Gala is right around the corner. What can SJCA supporters do to help ensure this event is successful?

MW: There are so many ways to get involved! One of the most exciting parts of the Gala is the silent auction. You can help by donating auction items—whether it’s a gift certificate to your business, themed baskets, or even unique crafts. Every contribution helps support SJCA, and every bid placed at the Gala goes towards key initiatives like upgrading our science labs, adding air conditioning units, and expanding our engineering programs. Last year, the silent auction alone raised in excess of $50,000 and we’re hoping to match or even surpass that this year! Of course, attending the event and purchasing tickets is another huge way to help.

Q: That’s amazing! How does the silent auction portion of the event work, and what can attendees expect?

MW: It’s super easy! Attendees can mingle through the Upper Campus cafeteria and lobby, browsing hundreds of auction items while enjoying appetizers, beverages, and the companionship of our SJ community. We have a variety of great items this year—everything from spa packages to gift certificates to sporting and camping accessories. Plus, with Mr. Buzzell as our event emcee, you can bet the evening will be full of energy and fun as guests bid and watch the excitement build!

Q: What about the live auction? I’ve heard that’s where some incredible experiences are up for grabs.

MW: Oh, absolutely! While the silent auction is thrilling, the live auction is where the memories are made. This year, we’ve got some priceless experiences lined up, like “Vacation Station,” where attendees can bid on unforgettable trips and experiences for their families. We know these vacations will create moments that will stay with our families forever—and knowing that these funds directly support SJCA makes it even more meaningful.

Q: How important is this event for SJCA’s fundraising efforts?

MW: The Lancer Gala's success is critical for helping us reach our fundraising goal of $500,000. Every dollar raised goes directly into the school to support facility improvements, like new science lab equipment and SmartBoards, as well as funding for engineering and coding programs. And let's not forget ticket sales for the Gala itself! Attending the event is a key way to support SJCA. It’s a night where you can have fun while contributing to the school’s future.

Q: Speaking of contributing, tell us more about the tuition raffle.

MW: Oh yes! We’re offering a chance to win $2,500 in tuition credits through this raffle. Tickets are just $20 for one or $50 for three. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our SJCA families to help raise funds while possibly winning some help with tuition costs! The winner will be announced at the Gala, but you don’t need to be present to win.

Q: So, for anyone considering attending or donating, what would you say?

MW: I’d say, don’t miss out! Purchase an event tickets, donate an item, or buy a raffle ticket—whatever you can do helps our students. Plus, if you're there with us in person on the 9th, you'll have a fun and memorable night with friends, and maybe even go home with an amazing prize—or a dream vacation!

Q: Any last words on what makes the Lancer Gala so special?

MW: To me, it’s about community. The Lancer Gala isn’t just a fundraiser—it’s an opportunity to connect, celebrate, and make memories together. Whether you're bidding in the silent auction or getting involved in the live auction, you're making a lasting impact on our school and our students. I can’t wait to see everyone there!

Join us for the Lancer Gala on November 9! Don’t forget to purchase your event tickets, enter the $2,500 tuition raffle, and explore all the exciting opportunities to get involved.
